Tamarind rice using home made Puliyodharai paste – Puliyodharai mix. South Indian Tamil Style recipe. Its also called as puliyogare in Kannada. Iyengar Puliyogare, a delicious tangy and spicy tamarind rice that is so popular in the region of Melkote in Karnataka. Well balanced flavors makes this puliyogare gojju so delicious and unique.
Ingrediants
For Making Podi:
  1. Oil
  2. dry red chillies 4 to 5
  3. channa dal 1tsp
  4. coriander seeds 1/4cup
  5. urad dal 1tsp
  6. cumin seeds 1 tsp
  7. mustard seeds 1tsp
  8. dry coconut
  9. sesame seeds 1tsp
  10. Fenugreek Seeds 1/2 tsp
For Pulihora:
  1. oil
  2. urad dal 1tsp
  3. channa dal 1tsp
  4. mustard seeds 1tsp
  5. peanuts 1/2cup
  6. turmeric powder
  7. hing
  8. dry red chillies 4 to 5
  9. jaggery small piece
  10. salt as required
  11. curry leaves
  12. green chillies
  13. Boiled rice
  14. tamarind extract
Method of Preparation
  • take a pan add required amount of oil, once oil get heated add channa dal 1tsp, coriander seeds 1/4cup, urad dal 1tsp, cumin seeds 1 tsp, mustard seeds 1tspdry coconut, sesame seeds 1tsp, Fenugreek Seeds 1/2 tsp, dry red chillies 4 to 5.
  • Fry all ingredients and cool it completely & transfer into blender. Now make it into coarse powder & keep it a side.

For Pulihora:
  • Once podi was ready now take a pan add oil & once oil heated add urad dal 1tsp, channa dal 1tsp, mustard seeds 1tsp, peanuts 1/2cup, turmeric powder, hing & dry red chillies 4 to 5 fry it on low flame.
  • Add green chillies, curry leaves, Tamarind extract.
  • add prepared powder. Mix it properly and add jaggery piece, required amount of salt.
  • cook for 10 mins once oil floats up turnoff the flame. Add boiled rice & mix it properly.
  • check the salt and serve this Pulihora to god as a nayiveydam.
